A lovely plot of France to discover ... the Bourbons' birthplace. Administratively attached to the Auvergne regionthe French division territorial of the Allier is the birthplace of the Bourbons dynasty. Before to be the Arverna - latin name of the Arvernes Gaulish tribe - the hostel was named by the famous sire of this family : Le Grand Condé.
Allier is a rural plot with various landscape where every village has its castle or manor, and is one of the first place in France with such castles and beautiful residences. The famous one is Lapalisse, King Henri IV's minister, known for his truths. His descendants is still owner and his property is opened to visit from avril to october.
The Allier is still a wooded place with notably its Tronçais forest and its most beautilful oaks in Europe. The great house of wine of Bordeaux and the eaux de vie of Cognac demand to be contained in Tronçais forest oak barrels.
The sylviculture is also well developped in the montainous part of Allier : la Montagne Boubonnaise adjacent to the Monts du Forez.
If here, Charolais bullock is king of grazing, we also find a lovely vineyard, the one of Saint Pourçain sur Sioule, great commercial burg puted on the verge of the Sioule, lovely little river coming from the Puy du Dôme.
The wine of St Pourçain originally from Gamay and Pinot noir pour les rouges is a bright wine very pleasant to drink.
It is also a average altitude territory with the Montagne Bourbonnaise sector, adjacent to the Monts du Forez in the Loire territory. Its high spot reachs 1200 metres and has a little winter sports resort opened in summer too for some outdoors activities.
Beautiful walks to plan in wonderful landscapes.
That remains to be seen :
